The membership of the Infrared Equipment
Division (IRED) of the Industrial Heating Equipment Association
(IHEA) is proud to present this first edition handbook as
a quick introduction to the many applications of infrared
heating in industrial processes today. Infrared (IR)
process heating was first developed in the 1930s for curing the
paint on automobile bodies. Since then, IR heating has
been successfully applied to hundreds of different process
heating applications, such as curing metal finishes and
protective coatings; fusing thermo set and thermoplastic powder
coatings; forming molded plastics; bonding adhesives and metals;
drying papers, inks, and fabrics; and processing foods.
