Who You Will Meet
Seminar speakers have a firsthand working knowledge in the development of the NFPA 86 standard. Don't miss the opportunity to speak directly with members of the NFPA 86 Technical Committee who are directly involved with the maintenance of this Standard.

Chariman - Kevin Carlisle, Karl Dungs, Inc.

Kevin Carlisle is the Quality Manager and Senior Technical Support Specialist at Karl Dungs, Inc, a manufacturer of combustion controls such as safety shutoff valves, limit controls, valve proving systems, primary safety controls, and pressure reducing regulators. For the past 19 years, he has been involved in codes and standards such as NFPA 86 "Ovens and Dyers”, CSD-1 "Controls and Safety Devices for Automatically Fired Boilers” and CSA B149.3 ”Field Approval of Fuel-Related Components on Appliances and Equipment”, and he is currently IHEA’s voting representative on the NPFA 86 technical committee. In addition, he is company’s representative for site investigations. Kevin holds a B.S.-Chemistry with ACS Certification from the University of Madison-Wisconsin.

Brian Baesel, Honeywell Combustion Safety (formerly CEC)
Bryan is a Mechanical Engineer who specializes in the design and field inspection of combustion equipment. He is a member of NFPA 85 and NFPA 86 along with several Fortune 100 combustion program teams. Prior to joining CEC, Mr. Baesel worked at a foundry and for a natural gas utility.

Tom George, Tokio Marine
Tom is a Process Safety and Loss Prevention Professional with Tokio Marine. He has over 25 years’ experience working with the Automotive, Steel and other high hazard industries as a loss control engineer. He began his career in 1985 with Industrial Risk Insurers (XL GAPS) and, moving to Detroit in 1994, became an Automotive Technical Specialist. More recently, he worked in corporate EH&S for Visteon Corporation, a tier 1 automotive supplier.

Tom serves on the NFPA 33/34 "Finishing Processes” and NFPA 86 "Ovens and Furnaces.” He is both a NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist and TÜV Certified Functional Safety Expert and holds a BA in Physics from Amherst College and Masters in Computer Science from Lawrence Technological University.

Glen Mortensen, Zurich Risk Engineering
Glen has over 38 years’ experience as a Fire Protection Engineer with Industrial Risk Insurers, Kemper and Zurich  Risk Engineering.  He has been a member or alternate of NFPA 86 for 25 years and is a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. He has a BS in Industrial Technology from Northern Illinois University. Mr. Mortensen is also a retired 21 year part-time Firefighter III - Apparatus Engineer.

Michael San Antonio, Fireye
Mike is the Regional Sales Manager for Fireye with over 30 years in the industry.  He holds various licenses within the thermal process heating realm including; Boiler Operator, OSHA Contruction Training, Service Management Training and several burner licenses. Mike's experience includes positions with Johnson Controls, Kromschroder, Honeywell International and CEO of Walt's Oil & Gas Burner Company.  He received his education at Bryant College and Villanova University.  Mike is a member of CSD-1 AHR, NFPA and ASHRE.

Mark Stender, Surface Combustion, Inc.
Mark has a Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering from the University of Toledo and has been with Surface Combustion since 1976. He has been a member of NFPA 86 “Ovens and Furnaces” Technical Committee since 1998 and is an active member of IHEA's Safety and Standards Committee.  He has also been a technical expert for ISO TC-244 “Industrial furnaces and associated processing equipment.

Franklin Switzer, S-afe, Inc.

Franklin is the Owner/President of S-afe, Inc., an independent consulting firm specializing in Design, Safety & Code Training, Auditing & Testing of Industrial Combustion Systems. In addition, in 2011 S-afe, Inc. added a mobile calibration truck for Exhaust Emissions testing with (2) Testo 350XL (O2/CO/NO/NOx) portable testers on board for burner/furnace tuning.

Franklin graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology(1984) and earned his MBA from Anderson University(1996). He started his career with Dresser-Rand Co. (13 Yrs) before moving to Indiana to work for Maxon Corp. for 12 years. He founded S-afe, Inc. in 2002 after assisting in the development of an Automated Pipe Train testing system for one of the Big three Automotive manufacturers.

Franklin currently serves as a committee member on NFPA 54 (National Fuel Gas Code), NFPA 85 (Boiler and Combustion Systems Hazards Code), NFPA 86 (Ovens & Furnaces), & NFPA 87 (Recommended Practice for Fluid Heaters), and ASME CSD-1 (Controls and Safety Devices for Automatically Fired Boilers). In addition, Franklin is currently serving as Chairman of the newly developed and released NFPA 56 (Standard for Fire and Explosion Prevention During Cleaning and Purging of Flammable Gas Piping Systems). In addition, he has been an instructor for the IHEA Safety Seminar since 2000.   

Aaron Zoeller, SCC Combustion
Aaron Zoeller is the national sales manager for Siemens Combustion Controls, based in Elk Grove Village, IL. Prior to joining Siemens in 2010, Aaron worked in engineering and sales for a major burner OEM for 10 years. Prior to that, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology from Ball State University in Muncie, IN.  Aaron is an active member of IHEA’s Safety Standards & Codes committee.
