Induction Division

The Induction Division represents another very critical heat technology process. This Division focuses on educating both the induction OEM’s the end users on best practices such as safety and operations, electric permitted for installation and other important processes and materials that are relevant to this technology. The Induction Division allows IHEA to expand its reach in the heat processing industry to provide critical information and education on induction technology. The addition of induction companies will also benefit all IHEA members by providing great resources and knowledge of numerous innovative areas for our members.

EDUCATION

IHEA's Induction Division offers Induction training several times a year. View the calendar of events for dates and registration information about the seminars and webinars scheduled.

Induction Seminar
Each Fall the Induction Division of IHEA holds the Induction Seminar in conjunction with the IHEA Combustion & Safety Seminar and Tabletop Exhibits.  During the Induction Seminar you'll learn all about the induction process in this in depth, informative seminar. Attendees will leave with an understanding of:

  • The basics of how induction technology works
  • The equipment needed for an induction operation
  • Induction processes, applications and markets
  • The advantages of induction for improving plant operations
  • What is needed to set up and induction operation

Induction Webinar
In May 2017 IHEA's Induction Division hosted a webinar.  During the webinar attendees learned about the basics of induction technology and how the electrically powered induction technology can create heat in parts, up to and including melting metals. They also looked at the many possible applications for the induction technology in manufacturing processes. Webinar speakers are IHEA members from induction company OEMs and leaders in the induction industry. If you are using induction and want to get an update on the latest and greatest, or if you are considering using induction for your operations, then this will be a great webinar for you and your team.

Induction Process Heating Handbook for Industrial Application - 1st Edition
The handbook is a quick introduction to basic operations and the many applications of induction heating in industrial processes. The basic principles of induction heating have been understood and applied to manufacturing since the 1920s. During World War II, the technology developed rapidly to meet urgent wartime requirements for a fast, reliable process to harden metal engine parts. Since that time, the applications for induction heating have extended to many manufacturing processes including pre- and post-heat treating, surface hardening, forging, sealing, bonding, annealing, and welding, among others.

When you understand the basics of induction heating, you can comfortably discuss improvements in your process heating systems with induction equipment manufacturers and your local electric utility companies. Knowing the basics of induction can also help you to recognize applications in your industrial operations to implement induction heating. Induction heating is a very clean heating process and for companies interested in reducing their carbon footprint, induction heating may provide an alternative to fossil fuel heating processes. The “Induction Applications” section of this handbook highlights a variety of induction heating examples that demonstrate the value and flexibility of induction technology.
