| OverviewIHEA Fundamentals of Industrial Process Heating course is taught over a 6 week period and designed to give you the flexibility you need, with the interaction with an instructor and forums to communicate with other students in your class. Each week students will be assigned a chapter to read from the Fundamental of Process Heating course book (electronic version included with course registration), and expected to participate in on-line forum discussions and complete weekly quizzes.  There is a final exam project which will be assigned during the fifth week of class. The moderator will be available by email to respond to questions and provide clarification. Students who successfully complete the course will receive 18 PDHs.
 Need to KnowThis course is designed to give the student a fundamental understanding of the mechanisms of heat transfer within an industrial furnace and the associated losses and the operation of a heating source either as fuel combustion or electricity.  All concepts are derived mathematically with limited use of "rules of thumb."
 As one of our prime objectives, the student will learn how to properly size the heating system to accomplish the required furnace output.  Radiant heat transfer, in particular, is a very complex phenomena requiring rigorous mathematical analysis. It is rarely addressed at the undergraduate level.  Therefore, the student should have a solid basis in undergraduate thermodynamics for this course.

  Instructor: Dan Curry Dan Curry, now retired, has experience in product development and management in industrial burners, burner control systems, temperature controls and combustion systems. Throughout his working career he has served on various technical committees for ISO TC244, NFPA 86, NFPA 87, CSA B149.3, and the Safety Standards & Code Committee of Industrial Heating Equipment Association (IHEA). He started in 1976 as a repair and service technician and expanded his experience and responsibilities through hands-on continuous learning over various industries, business roles, buy-outs, acquisitions, re-assignments and global travels.
