The Electric Power Research Institute, Inc. conducts research, development and demonstration (RD&D) relating to the generation, delivery and use of electricity for the benefit of the public. An independent, nonprofit organization, EPRI brings together scientists and engineers as well as experts from academia and the industry to help address challenges in electricity. EPRI’s work spans nearly every area of electricity generation, delivery and use, management and environmental responsibility. EPRI provides both short- and long-term solutions in these research areas for the electricity industry, its customers and society. The depth and breadth of EPRI’s work can be found at their 2014 Research Portfolio (http://portfolio.epri.com).
EPRI’s Products and Services: EPRI produces more than 1,200 products annually that range from white papers, project updates and newsletters, to comprehensive reports, field guides and software that inform its members and the public in their efforts to help shape the future of electricity.
EPRI’s Laboratories From traditional research on lightning protection for the power grid, to testing new devices that consumers may someday use to manage their energy consumption in real-time, EPRI's labs provide world class capabilities for testing, experiments and technology-application research. EPRI's laboratories offer comprehensive and convenient services. Staffed with leading experts, EPRI's labs serve transmission and distribution companies and electricity end-users, including industrial customers. EPRI's laboratories are located in Charlotte, NC; Knoxville, TN; and Lenox, MA.
EPRI’s Members The worldwide membership that supports EPRI’s work and mission comprises more than 1,000 organizations. While most members are electric utilities, many are firms, government agencies, corporations, or public or private entities engaged in some aspect of the generation, delivery or use of electricity. Members work collaboratively in advisory councils that help direct and inform the development of EPRI’s annual research portfolio. These advisers are fundamental to identifying the critical and emerging electricity industry issues that EPRI’s research will address.
