Daufuskie Island History & Artisan Tour
11:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Registration is limited

Tucked between Hilton Head and Savannah, and accessible only by boat, the island is a real gem – a trip back in time - providing a glimpse into a fascinating chapter of Lowcountry history on the ‘undeveloped’ side of Daufuskie Island.

First we’ll enjoy a picnic boxed lunch at the marina before we board our boat for a cruise down Broad Creek, through the backwater marshes, and across the Calibogue Sound to Daufuskie. Once onboard the boat, you will have the opportunity to stop and observe wildlife and historic points of interest.  On the island, we’ll visit several one-of-a-kind places including the First African Baptist Church, the Praise House, Mary Fields School (memorialized in Pat Conroy’s ‘The Water is Wide’) and the site of the Bloody Point Lighthouse.  Finally, we’ll visit artisan studios including the Silver Dew Pottery and The Iron Fish.  Learn the rich history of the Native Americans, European settlers, the cotton trade, the Gullah people and the locals who have chosen to make this remote island their home.

Fee:
$150 per person (includes boxed lunch, boat ride, golf carts to get around the island, on-island guide and tour stops)
